The Science Behind The 10 Minute Prayer System

The 10 Minute Prayer System - The World's first habit-forming prayer journal & hourglass.

What makes it habit-forming?

Inspired by 5 classic prayers found in Scripture, the 10 Minute Prayer Journal is a 6-month guided, fill-in-the-blanks prayer journal that also serves as a prayer planner. It comes with a 10 minute hourglass.

The planner portion of the journal uses implementation intentions also known as "if-then" plans which are scientifically proven to double or triple your chances of actually doing what you plan.

Dr. Gollwitzer - The father of implementation intentions.

What is an implementation intention?

According to Wikipedia:

“An implementation intention is a self-regulatory strategy in the form of an "if-then plan" that can lead to better goal attainment, as well as help in habit and behavior modification.

It is subordinate to goal intentions as it specifies the when, where and how portions of goal-directed behavior.

The concept of implementation intentions was introduced in 1999 by psychologist Peter Gollwitzer.[1]

Studies conducted by Gollwitzer in 1997 and earlier show that the use of implementation intentions can result in a higher probability of successful goal attainment, by predetermining a specific and desired goal-directed behavior in response to a particular future event or cue.[2]”

How effective are these plans?

In one study, 91% of people who use an if-then plan stuck to an exercise program versus 38% of non-planners. [3]

The reason why it is so effective is because you take out all of the guesswork in advance, when we are not completely sure how to do something or when to do it we tend to lean toward the easier option which is usually simply not to do it.

So we thought why not use this science to help us pray more often.  Voila!
